Q. I have a real estate license, does that make me a REALTOR®?
A. No. A real estate agent is a REALTOR® when they become a member of the National Association of REALTORS® – the world’s largest professional association. 

Q. What is a REALTOR®?
A. The term REALTOR® is a legally registered collective membership mark that identifies a real estate professional who is a member of the National Association of REALTORS® and subscribes to its strict Code of Ethics. Your membership is three-fold: When you join Northeast Alabama Association of REALTORS®, you also gain membership in the Alabama Association of REALTORS® (“AAR”) and the National Association of REALTORS® (“NAR”).

Q. What is the REALTOR® Code of Ethics?
A. NAR’s Code of Ethics, adopted in 1913, was one of the first codifications of ethical duties adopted by any business group. The Code ensures that consumers are served by requiring REALTORS® to cooperate with each other in furthering clients’ best interests. All REALTOR® members are required to complete Code of Ethics training every 3 years.

Q. If my qualifying broker is not a member with Northeast Alabama Association of REALTORS®, may I still join?
A. Agents must hold their primary membership in a REALTOR® association where the company’s principal or managing broker holds REALTOR® membership.

Q. What is included in my membership?
A. Benefits include exclusive use of the term REALTOR®, networking opportunities, opportunities to attend CE classes and many more. For an extensive list of benefits, you may contact the association office directly.

Q. What are the annual membership fees?
A. Membership fees are paid on an annual basis and are due each year on January 31, and Supra dues are billed annually every July 1. For new members joining the Northeast Alabama Association of REALTORS®, dues will be pro-rated based on the month you earned your real estate license and will include a one-time application fee.

Q. Can I pay my dues online?
A. Yes. You can pay your dues online by going to nar.realtor and clicking on Pay Dues at the top right corner of the page. Payments can also be made to our office via check or money order.

Q. How can I get involved?
A. Members can get involved by attending membership meetings, serving on committees, contributing to ARPAC, participating in community service events, and more!

Q. Where can I find information about membership meetings?
A. You can view all events and meetings on ECAOR’s Calendar of Events or contact the association directly.

Q. What does primary membership mean?
A. Primary membership is an accounting term indicating that you are paying your National and State dues through that particular REALTOR® association.

Q. What does secondary membership mean?
A. Secondary membership means that you are already paying your national and state dues with another local REALTOR® association. Therefore, you only have to pay the local dues with your secondary Association.

Q. How do I find CE class information?
A. You can view all events on ECAOR’s Calendar of Events or contact the association directly.

Q. How do I register for a CE class hosted by ECAOR Real Estate School?
A. Due to limited space, pre-registration is required. Please contact ECAOR via phone or email to reserve your spot.

Q. What do I need to do if I am transferring my real estate license to a different office?
A. Please have your new qualifying/managing broker complete and return the Agent Transfer Form to Northeast Alabama Association of REALTORS®.

Q. Can Northeast Alabama Association of REALTORS® Dues, ARPAC contribution or fees be refunded?
A. No.

Q. Can late fees be waived?
A. No. Late fees for any type of dues or member fees will not be waived. Northeast Alabama Association of REALTORS® provides ample notice and numerous email reminders to help you avoid late fees. Please be sure the office has current contact information.
